ހަނިމާދޫ ކައުންސިލަކީ ޤާނޫނު ނަމްބަރ 7/2010 “ދިވެހިރާއްޖޭގެ އިދާރީ ދާއިރާތައް ލާމަރުކަޒީ އުސޫލުން ހިންގުމުގެ ޤާނޫން” އިން ބާރު ލިބިގެން އުފައްދާފައިވާ މިނިވަން މުސްތަޤިއްލު މުވައްސަސާއެކެވެ. ހަމައެއާއެކު އަމިއްލަ ނަމުގައި ދައުވާކުރުމާއި، ދައުވާ ލިބިގަތުގެ ބާރާއި އަދި އަމިއްލަ ނަމުގައި މުޢާމަލާތްކުރުމުގެ ހައިސިއްޔަތު ލިބިފައިވާ ވަކި ސިއްކައެއް އޮންނަ ޤާނޫނީ ޝަޚުސެކެވެ. މުވައްސަސާގެ މައިގަނޑު ބޭނުމަކީ ހަނިމާދޫ ރައްޔިތުންގެ ކަންކަން ދީމިޤްރާތީ އަދި ޖަވާބުދާރީވަނިވި އުސޫލުން ނިންމުމަށް މަގުފަހިކޮށްދީ، އިޖްތިމާޢީގޮތުންނާއި އިޤްތިޞާދީގޮތުންނާއި، ޘަޤާފީގޮތުން، ހަނިމާދޫގައި ދިރިއުޅޭ ރައްޔިތުންގެ ދިރިއުޅުމުގެ ފެންވަރު މަތިކޮށް، ރައްޔިތުން ބާރުވެރިކޮށް، ރައްޔިތުންނާ އެންމެ ގާތުން ފުޅާދާއިރާއެއްގައި ޚިދުމަތް ލިބޭނެ މަގު ފަހިކޮށްދީ، ހަނިމާދޫގައި އަމާންވެއްޓެއް ޤާއިމްކޮށް ދިނުމެވެ. 

The Secretariat of Hanimaadhoo Council – The decentralised governance, focusing on community development, public service delivery, and ensuring democratic decision-making at the local level.

They are responsible for managing community affairs, developing and implementing community development plans, and ensuring basic services like water, sanitation, and electricity are provided.

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF A THRIVING COMMUNITY

Nestled in the serene northern reaches of the Maldives, the Hanimaadhoo Council serves as a pivotal force in governing and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. Established as an independent and autonomous body under the Decentralisation Act (Law No. 7/2010), the Council is dedicated to fostering self-governance and empowering local decision-making processes that resonate with the community's unique needs and aspirations.

LEGAL AND FINANCIAL AUTONOMY

The Hanimaadhoo Council operates with an extensive legal framework that grants it the authority to own property and incur liabilities. These powers not only affirm the council's independence but also allow it to manage local resources effectively. The financial autonomy bestowed upon the Council enables it to allocate funds strategically, ensuring that development initiatives align with the interests and welfare of the island’s inhabitants.

The ratification of the Decentralisation Act marked a transformative milestone for Hanimaadhoo. With this significant legislative shift, all functions and assets of the former Hanimaadhoo District Offices were officially transferred to the Council. This transition has empowered local leaders to take charge of governance, ultimately enhancing accountability and transparency in the decision-making process.
