During the meeting held on 6 July 2026, Hanimaadhoo Council, the Senior Management Team of Hanimaadhoo School, and the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) held extensive discussions on areas where they could work together to enhance students' educational development and improve the school's facilities and resources.

The meeting provided an important platform for exchanging ideas and exploring collaborative initiatives aimed at creating a better learning environment and expanding educational opportunities for students through stronger cooperation between the council, the school, and the PTA.

During the meeting held on 6 July 2026 between officials of the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and the Hanimaadhoo Council, discussions focused on the establishment of a Waste Management Centre (WMC) in Hanimaadhoo. The two parties also exchanged views on measures to strengthen the island's waste management system, including practical approaches to improving waste collection, processing, and overall environmental sustainability.

As part of the government's Population Consolidation Policy, a senior delegation from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development met with Hanimaadhoo Council on Sunday, 21 June 2026, at the Council Office to discuss the administrative and operational aspects of the project to relocate the residents of H.dh. Hirimaradhoo to H.dh. Hanimaadhoo.

The Ministry's delegation was led by Minister of State Ahmed Nazim Mohamed and Deputy Minister Hassan Visal. The delegation also included Principal Housing Development Officer Mohamed Zareer.

During the meeting, Hanimaadhoo Council presented several concerns and challenges relating to the implementation of the project. The Council highlighted that, as some essential public services in Hirimaradhoo have already been discontinued and residents are currently facing difficult circumstances, it is important to establish a clear roadmap for the project's implementation.

The Council also noted the challenges arising from the fact that no additional budget has been allocated to Hanimaadhoo Council for this relocation project. It further emphasized the limited availability of land in Hanimaadhoo and the difficulties this presents.

In addition, the Council expressed concern that many residents of Hanimaadhoo are still waiting to receive residential land and that relocating residents from another island before addressing the housing needs of Hanimaadhoo's own residents has created unease within the local community. The Council also raised the unresolved issues concerning compensation for trees removed from land cleared for housing development for Hirimaradhoo residents, as well as pending matters related to the Safe Zone project.

In response to these concerns, the ministry's delegation stated that the government's Population Consolidation Policy has been designed to provide the greatest overall benefit to the residents of both islands while also contributing significantly to the future development of Hanimaadhoo.

The Ministry further assured the Council that it would work with the relevant government agencies to expedite solutions to the issues raised, including budget constraints, land availability, and the pending compensation for removed trees. The delegation also assured the Council that the project would continue in close coordination with Hanimaadhoo Council and that the housing rights of Hanimaadhoo residents would not be adversely affected as the project progresses.

އެމެރިކާ އެމްބަސީގެ އެދުމުގެ މަތިން، އެ އެމްބަސީން އިސްނަގައިގެން ބޭއްވި "ލޯކަލް ކައުންސިލް ރައުންޑްޓޭބަލް" ބައްދަލުވުން މި ރަށުގައި ކުރިއަށްގެޮސްފިއެވެ. މި ކައުންސިލުން އިންތިޒާމުތައް ހަމަޖެއްސި މި ބައްދަލުވުމުގައި މި ކައުންސިލްގެ ފަރާތުންނާއި އުތުރުގެ އެހެން ބައެއް ލޯކަލް ކައުންސިލްތަކުގެ މަންދޫބުން ވެސް ވަނީ ބައިވެރިވެފައެވެ. ޖޫން 25 ވަނަ ދުވަހު ކުރިއަށްދިޔަ މި ބައްދަލުވުމަކީ ކައުންސިލްތަކަށް ދިމާވާ ގޮންޖެހުންތަކާއި، ތަރައްޤީގެ ފުރުޞަތުތަކާ ގުޅޭގޮތުން މަޝްވަރާކުރުމަށް ބޭއްވި މުހިންމު ބައްދަލުވުމެކެވެ.

At the request of the U.S. Embassy, a "Local Council Roundtable" meeting organized and led by the Embassy was held in Hanimaadhoo. The meeting arrangements were coordinated by the Hanimaadhoo Council, and participants included representatives from the Council as well as delegates from several other local councils in the northern region. Held on 25 June, the roundtable served as an important forum for discussing the challenges faced by local councils and the opportunities for development, while enabling participants to exchange views and share experiences on these issues.

During the roundtable discussion, participants held extensive discussions focusing on two main thematic areas. The first focused on economic resilience and supply chains. Participants noted that, although the northern Maldives has significant commercial and economic potential, there are major challenges related to budget limitations and access to land for development. They also discussed practical ways to address the difficulties faced by islands located far from the capital in obtaining essential goods and supplies. The discussions provided participants with an opportunity to exchange views and explore possible solutions to these shared challenges.

In addition, under the theme of urban development and infrastructure, special attention was given to the island's International Airport Project, which is one of the government's major development initiatives for the northern region. The discussion focused on the project's potential to generate direct benefits for local communities, including employment opportunities, improved logistics, enhanced fisheries-related activities, and broader economic growth. Participants also highlighted the opportunities for collaboration with U.S. companies in sectors such as logistics, fisheries, and the maritime industry, emphasizing the importance of strengthening partnerships that could contribute to the sustainable development of the northern region.

Representatives of the participating councils shared the development challenges and key issues facing their respective islands and exchanged views with officials from the U.S. Embassy on possible solutions and areas for cooperation.

Hanimaadhoo Council noted that hosting discussions of this nature on the island helps strengthen relationships with international partners while creating new opportunities for the economic and infrastructure development of both the island and the wider atoll. The Council further emphasized that such engagements provide a valuable platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the exploration of future partnerships that can contribute to sustainable local development.

U.S. Embassy Hosts "Local Council Roundtable" Meeting

ހަނިމާދޫ ކައުންސިލް އަށް ޓެކްނިކަލް އެހީތެރިކަން ފޯރުކޮށްދިނުމުގެ އެގްރިމެންޓުގައި މިއަދު 14 ޖޫން 2026 ގައި ވަނީ ސޮއި ކުރެވިފައެވެ. މި މަސައްކަތް ޙަވާލުކުރެވިފައިވަނީ މިބިޑް ކާމިޔާބުކޮށްފައިވާ "ޕޯލަރ ބިލްޑަރސް" އަށް މަހަކު 18،000 (އަށާރަހާސް) ރުފިޔާއަށް 3 އަހަރު ދުވަހުގެ މުއްދަތަށެވެ.

The Agreement for the Provision of Technical Assistance to Hanimaadhoo Council was signed today, 14 June 2026.

The service has been awarded to Polar Builders, the successful bidder, for a period of three years at a monthly fee of MVR 18,000 (Eighteen Thousand Rufiyaa).

Under this agreement, Polar Builders will provide technical assistance and support services to Hanimaadhoo Council throughout the contract period.

On 15 June 2026, an agreement was signed with Small Island Futures for the preparation of Hanimaadhoo Council’s upcoming Five-Year Development Plan. The project is valued at MVR 369,200 and is to be completed within 45 days.

The Council’s objective is to develop and finalize a comprehensive and sustainable development plan for Hanimaadhoo within the agreed timeframe, with the active participation of local institutions and community members. The plan will serve as a roadmap for the island’s future development and guide its growth and progress over the next five years.

މި ބައްދަލުވުމުގައި ފެނަކައިން ފާހަގަކުރި ގޮތުގައި، އިންޖީނުތައް ސާވިސްކުރުމަށް އިންޖީނުގެއިން ޖާގައިގެ ދަތިކަން ވަނީ ކުރިމަތިވެފައެވެ. އަދި ރަށުގެ ކަރަންޓު ކެޕޭސިޓީ އިތުރުކުރުމަށް ޓްރާންސްފޯމަރުތައް ހަރުކުރަންޖެހޭއިރު، މިހާރު އޮތް ކަރަންޓު ނެޓްވޯކް ބަލިކަށިވުމުގެ ސަބަބުން ދަތިތަކެއް ހުރިކަން އެ ފަރާތުން ފާހަގަކުރިއެވެ. މި މަސައްކަތުގެ ދަށުން ކޭބަލް އެޅުމުގައި ކައުންސިލްގެ ފަރާތުން ވެހިކަލްގެ އެހީތެރިކަން ފޯރުކޮށްދިނުމަށް ވަނީ އެއްބަސްވެފައެވެ.

ނަރުދަމާ ނިޒާމާ ބެހޭގޮތުން ވާހަކަދައްކަވަމުން، ނިޒާމު ސާފުކޮށް ބެލެހެއްޓުމަށް ބޭނުންވާ ވަސީލަތްތައް ނެތުމުގެ ސަބަބުން ހޮޅިތައް ބްލޮކްވަމުންދާ މައްސަލަ ފެނަކައިން ހިއްސާކުރިއެވެ. އަދި މިކަމަށް ވަގުތުން ހައްލެއް ހޯދުމަށް ބައުޒަރެއްގެ ބޭނުންތެރިކަން ބޮޑުވެފައިވާކަން ދެފަރާތުން ފާހަގަކުރިއެވެ.

Hanimaadhoo Council held a meeting today with the Hanimaadhoo Branch of Fenaka Corporation to discuss solutions to the challenges faced in the island’s electricity and sewerage services.

During the meeting, Fenaka highlighted that there is a shortage of space in the powerhouse for carrying out engine maintenance. They also noted that while additional transformers are required to increase the island’s electricity capacity, difficulties are being faced due to the weakness of the existing electricity network. To support this work, the Council agreed to provide vehicle assistance for cable-laying activities.

Regarding the sewerage system, Fenaka explained that blockages in the pipelines are occurring due to the lack of the necessary equipment required to properly clean and maintain the system. Both parties further noted the urgent need for a bowser vehicle to address these issues in a timely manner.

In addition, discussions were held on the solar energy project planned for the island. Fenaka informed the council that connecting all households to the main grid at once could place an excessive load on the generators. Therefore, a battery storage system would need to be installed to effectively address this issue.

This meeting was an important collaborative effort between the two institutions aimed at improving the quality of essential public services on the island and finding prompt solutions to the difficulties experienced by residents.

They also reaffirmed their commitment to working together with all stakeholders to make the upcoming term a successful one, with expectations of significant progress in the island’s economic and social sectors.
